    Project Narrative

SIMaid began responding to the widespread food security crisis in East Africa back in August (2011). Through our partner in Kenya we are helping provide food, medical and shelter assistance to families and individuals severely impacted by the extended drought in East Africa. The north-eastern region of Kenya, like the rest of the Horn of Africa, has experienced severe drought together with an influx of refugees from adjoining regions. Since August gifts received into our 'Emergency Fund' have been allocated to this response and will continue to be until there is reason to focus on another emergency situation. Together with our Kenyan partner we have developed a specific longer term project titled 'Kenya Drought Relief' to continue the relief work as well as to help families and communities repair wells and pumps and to rebuild their food and income security.

When disasters happen, if you don't act fast, you might as well not act at all. When emergency situations develop or disasters such as earthquakes and floods, overseas' aid agencies need to be able to respond quickly and often before an appeal to the public can be launched. SIMaid's Emergency Fund has been established specifically to facilitate a quick response and to provide opportunity for donors to contribute to this response.
