Project Need: $325,090
This project recently conducted a school holiday camp for students focused on prevention and behavioral education. There was one particular orphan girl whose parents had passed away due to the AIDS pandemic Zimbabwe is facing. She has spent her life fighting for survival in the harsh conditions of Zimbabwe where food is scarce and each crumb is cherished due to the uncertainty of when their next meal is.
After being scorned and physically abused by her school peers to take her food, she attempted to take their lives by poisoning them with a deadly pesticide. She was confused about the commotion it brought because she was just doing what she had always done in order to survive.
As she attended the camp, she was challenged about how she lived and her understanding of the consequences of her actions. After realising her mistakes, she came back to school with a renewed heart and change of mind. Not only has she changed her attitude and the way she lives, but she has also managed to forgive her peers.
This project providing on-going care for those affected by HIV and AIDS in rural Gokwe, by trained local volunteers as well as reducing the rate of infection through education.
